At
14,491', Mt. Whitney is the tallest peak in the lower 48 States. The
best place to view the mountain is right where we were staying -- in
Lone Pine, California.
On our
last day, the clouds kept taunting us by keeping the peak hidden. But
just before we headed back to L. A., they took pity on us and drifted
away so that we could get a clear look at the mountain.
We we
going to drive up to the Mt. Whitney Portal, about 10 miles from the
base of the mountain, but the road was still closed by snow.
