Hildebrant Starling

After Maasai Mara, we moved on to Amboseli. The staff at the lodge was extremely fast when it came to clearing plates, to the point where it was hard to keep one if you dared to stir from the table at any point.

One morning I found out why when I left an omelette unguarded while I got some juice -- when I came back to the table, eight of these birds were attacking my omelette and had almost wrestled it off the plate!

The rest of our group was all watching and laughing, but they swore it happened to fast to do anything about it. I believed them shortly thereafter, when one of these birds hopped on our table and went for the omelette of someone who was trying to take a picture of said bird. Fearless little critters, they were, with really demonic red eyes.
