A side view of Luxor's pylon (which is 75 feet
high) and the obelisk detailing the military triumphs of Ramses
II. The spire behind the pylon is a mosque. The temple was so filled
with dirt and debris that they built an entire town within its walls.
They relocated the town except for the mosque, which was considered
too sacred to move. Today it stands 26 feet above the floor of the
temple. |
