The full moon rises above the protection symbol carved into the temple's lintel. The symbol comes from Horus' battle with the evil god Seth. Horus, the falcon god, enlisted the aid of Ra, the sun god. To show this alliance, the Egyptians used a round orb with wings. Spitting cobras rise menacingly on either side of the orb, ready to defend Egypt with their venom. This symbol can be found over almost every doorway in every Egyptian temple.
