The National Archaeological Museum in Naples has a really amazing 1:100 scale model of Pompeii built in the 1860s. The walls of the model are actually painted with the same frescos they found on the walls of the buildings.

If we'd seen this model before we went to Pompeii, we wouldn't have been quite so surprised at how big it is.
