This statue came from the Villa of the Papyri
in Herculaneum. This villa got its name from the 1,758 papyrus scrolls
they found in its library.
The villa was a treasure trove of art as well
-- they recovered 50 marble and 21 bronze statues. The one shown above
is relatively small, but some of them were larger than life. The level
of detail was amazing.
